NYC, OPI and Sinful Colors Summer releases!

Over the weekend I ran to a Walgreens and a CVS, while out on my adventures I noticed three new summer 2013 launches for polish.

For OPI Nicole I came across some very cute neon sets of mini bottles called Notorious and Scandalous, I would love to add these minis for my Mini Mani Monday collection however I couldn’t bring myself to make the purchase. Each set came with a white for the base and then three bright colors.

For NYC I found the summer 2013 Rooftop Party collection, where NYC boasts “Two is always better than one!”  The collection has fun summer names such as Short Shorts. Each set came with a quick dry top coat and retailed for $1.99 each, CVS was having a sale buy one NYC get $1.00 off a second; I couldn’t resist this deal and purchased four colors.

The final release that I spotted was for Sinful Colors a summer 2013 Collection called Sail la Vie and another called Pool Side Polish. Most of the colors in both collections are reissues however there are a few which are new.

Mini Mani Monday Memorial Day nails!

Today’s Mini Mani Monday is a Memorial Day edition! This mini edition was completed with red and white from a Wet N Wild Color Wave collection and a mini glitter blue from Orly, the stars are from one of Martha Stewarts glitter collections.

I started with two coats of white for the base coat, and then added some glitter blue over the ring finger. With a nail art brush I made the red stripes. Once the blue was dry I used my dotting tool and placed the iridescent stars all over my ring finger and then added a Seche Vite top coat to all nails.

Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant Glosstinis

For Mini Mani Monday I purchased a bottle of the newly launched Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant Summer lovin for your lips & tips! The cost per bottle is $2.49 and I found it at bed Bath and Beyond.  This is a new item which Cover Girl dares you to go topless with the combinations of a base coat, high gloss color, and chip resistant top coat. The bottle is .11 fluid ounces which makes it a great addition to my mini collection.

I am currently test wearing the polish so I can not confirm nor deny Cover Girls word on being chip resistant, I will update the blog later with those details. Update: I wore the polish for 5 days and did not encounter a chip!

Here is a picture of the nail side of the display, it is a two in one nail and lip display.

Bahama Mama- is orange with a micro glitter shine, this has two coats went on smooth and dried very quickly.  The color definitely has a high gloss which I really like.

Wet N Wild Coloricon Limited Edition Nail Polish

I purchased five bottles of the Wet N Wild Limited Edition Coloricon glitters; these were found at Walgreens on an end cap and were on sale for a $1.00 off. This collection was originally released in the fall of 2011 so this is a reissue on the Limited Edition.

I love glitter of all shapes, sizes and color, this collection not only delivers a variety of color but also a variety of glitters in each bottle.

It’s All In the Cut-A purple glitter with silver hex glitter, this has three coats.

Diamond In the Rough-A grey jelly like micro glitter with small round silver glitter, this has three coats and was my favorite of the five.

Back Alley Deals-A teal and purple glitter mix, this has three coats.

Cost Is No Issue-A teal jelly base with micro teal glitter with a mix of teal and gold round glitter. This has two coats I should have gone with three.

Rockin Rubies-A red micro glitter with silver hex glitter, this has three coats.

Revlon Matte Top Coats!

This blog is one of several that will review different types of top coats! Revlon sent me two matte top coats to review. One bottle is Matte Top Coat the other is called Smoke and Matte Top Coat, I’m not even sure this is available in retail stores yet or when it is launching, has anyone seen it? If so tell us about it on Facebook!

I used Revlon’s Infamous as a base color, this is a polish I purchased. I did not apply a top coat to my ring and pointer fingers.

The Smoke and Matte Top Coat is thinner than the regular Revlon Matte Top Coat, when it dries it is matte with a cloudy look.

The Matte Top Coat is thick and dries a matte finish with a slight shine.

The Importance of a good base coat and nail strengtheners that work!

Starting in February I had some major breakage and staining on my nails, something that had never happened to me in the past. I couldn’t figure out why and then it came to me I had changed the base coat to Seche Vite from the trusty Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat.

To help with the breakage all the nails had to be cut down to nothing and the use of Sally Hansen Complete Care started. (A product I purchased)  I asked Sally Hansen to send me some growth products to blog about.  They sent me two products a bottle of their Maximum Growth and a bottle of their Maximum Strength. In order to restore my nails I used these products as stand alone on the nails or as a base to my nail color. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Maximum Growth is more geared towards soft, bitten and weak nails, while Maximum Strength is more for strengthening nails to help prevent breaking peeling or a tear. I started with the Maximum Growth and then went between the Maximum Strength and the Complete Care which is a four in one nail treatment.

My nails have rebounded, I recently cut them to grow out the staining and keep them healthy, I also continue to use the Complete Care and Maximum Growth. Once the staining grows out I will use the Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat as a base to prevent any future staining and breakage. All of these Sally Hansen strengtheners are to be applied every other day and can be used as a base coat.

Complete Care-at major retailers and retails for about $10.00 a bottle, leaves a nice shine or polish goes over very easily.

Maximum Strength-at major retailers and retails for about $4.00-$5.00 a bottle, it is a nice light pink that can be worn alone or with a coat of polish.

The three nails strengtheners and my favorite most trusted Double Duty Base and Top Coat; the top coat has a great shine.

I hope you found this blog to be useful, please share your base coat or strengthener experiences on Facebook
