OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 Breast Cancer Awareness set!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and pink can be found from manicures to the football field. For a number of years OPI has had Breast Cancer Awareness sets and they donate $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen fund in honor of breast cancer awareness.

I purchased the 2013 OPI Breast Cancer Awareness set called Pink of Hearts from Ulta.
The set has two full sized bottles of polish, 10 pink ribbon decal and 10 nail crystals. The solid pink polish is Pink-ing of You and a matte glitter called More Than a Glimmer.

This is a fun set as it has two great polishes and allows you to express yourself in endless nail designs. Pinking of you is a sheer soft pink. More Than a Glimmer is a combination of multi sized hex glitter in pink, silver and teal with a clear matte base to give a chrome finish.

Milani and Sally Hansen Nail Designs!

Here are two recent nail designs; both were fun and fairly easy to create! One design is a gradient done with Sally Hansen polish and some loose glitter, while the other was made with Milani nail color and chevron nail stickers which I purchased at Sally’s Beauty Supply. All supplies used for these nails were purchased by me.

For both looks I started with a base coat which I have trusted for years, about 6 months ago I stopped using this base coat and quickly regretted it. The base coat that I swear by is Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat; it goes on smooth and dries fast. (It is not a quick dry top coat)

Sally Hansen Gradient

The two colors I used where from the Salon Manicure Collection, The purple is called Purple Pulse and the pink is Cherry Cherry Bang Bang. For this look I used a makeup sponge placed a little of each color and rocked the sponge with the polish on my fingernails. Once the polish was dry I took a small brush and brushed some loose glitter onto the base of the nail and sealed it in with the Double Duty Top coat. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Milani Chevron

For this look I used three Milani colors Sweetest Pink, Tropical Fiesta and Silver Dazzle. I stared the base color with Sweetest Pink let it dry then applied the chevron nail guides to the tips of my nails, from there I painted the tips Silver Dazzle. It is important that you remove the tape soon after applying the polish otherwise you will ruin the perfect lines. Once the tape was removed I placed another chevron sticker guide below the Silver Dazzle tip and used Tropical Fiesta.

July 4th Mini Mani Monday

For this Mani I used three Orly and a Wet N Wild mini polish to create a July 4th inspired manicure!

For the Pinkie finger I painted the nail red then made a half moon in white then randomly placed iridescent stars over the red.

For the ring and pointer finger I painted the base a glitter then used nail tape and painted one coat of solid colored polish. While the white and red polish was still wet I took the manicure tape off.

For the middle finger I painted the nail white and then added a red half moon then placed blue glitter stars along the edge.

All fingers where topped off with a Seche Vite top coat.

Splash of Blue

This fun manicure was made with Orly Boho Bonnet and Julie Blueberry Fizz.

I started with two coats of Orly Boho Bonnet then I took two pieces of manicure tape and made the triangle, you can use regular tape or painters tape as well. Once the tape was in place I added one coat of Julie Blueberry Fizz, then removed the tape while the polish was wet. This manicure was topped off with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

This design would look great in many different color combos, if you recreate this look be sure to tag me on Instagram @ coolpolishblog or post it on my Facebook page, so I can check it out!

Easy Fun French Manicures

For this blog I created two Fun French manicures, both are easy to do one just takes a little more time. I purchased all of the polish and supplies for these manicures. If you recreate the looks please share them on Facebook or tag me on Instagram @coolpolishblog.

Look one is made with two polishes and a glitter striper.

1. I painted the base with Orly Elation Generation which is a fun pink with glitter.
2. The tip is Sally Hansen Purple Pulse from their Complete Salon Manicure collection this is a lovely deep purple with shimmer, I used one stroke with the brush to add color to each tip.
3. The striper is a silver glitter called Glitter Lites by Nail Art, for the striper I went over where the pink and purple met.

Look two is made with two polishes and nail art decorations, this nail design takes a little longer due to the bead placement.

1. I painted the base with Diamond Dazzle by Milani
2. For the Tips I used Katy by Zoya, you can use manicure guides for nice smooth tips or Avery Reinforcement Labels, both of these items also help create half moon look nails so it is good to have both in your supply kit.
3. For the bead work I used white pearl nail art that I purchased at Claire’s Cosmetics, these items can also be purchased through Amazon. To place the beads I used a dotting tool, fast drying top coat and tweezers. I dotted each spot one at a time then added the bead work.

Nail Art with Sally Hansen, Julie and Revlon!

I have been playing around with some nail art designs; it has been fun and a learning experience. This blog is to show you the nail designs with instructions on how I made them so you can give it a try!

Sally Hansen Color blocking. I took five Sally Hansen colors and randomly placed two colors on each of the nails using the brush that came with the polish, then for the green line I used my liner brush and covered over the connecting colors.

A liner brush can be purchased in a set or alone from local craft stores or on Amazon.

Julie half moons. I used two colors (Tangerine Dream and Sugar Rush) from the Julie Gum Drop texture collection. I picked these polishes up when they had the Groupon deal. These polishes are super fun and colorful. I painted each finger with polish let dry then took an Avery reinforcement label sticker and placed it on each nail then painted the tips a different color. I then used my dotting tool to add the dot towards the base.

Avery reinforcement labels can be purchased at Walmart for under $2.00 and the dotting tool came in a set which I purchased off Amazon.

Revlon hexagon sparkle! I used Revlon Sparkle Aplenty to paint my nails; this is a super fun color with small hexagons and glitter in the polish. For the ring finger I used hexagons from Martha Stewart, I placed the hexagons on by using my dotting tool, I dotted a small amount of topcoat on the nail for each hex placement then used the tool to place each shape.

Martha Stewart hexagons can be found at Michaels Craft stores in multiple colors.

Attempt at Nail Art!

This weekend I broke out of the normal routine and attempted some nail art that I’ve seen floating around Instagram. One attempt was with the Tuxedo nails since prom and wedding season have arrived, the cupcake design from Cute Polish, then the watermelon nail and finally the Caviar nail. All are fun to do and came out better then I had expected since I had never done nail art like any of these before.

With practice my skills will get better, I hope you enjoy these fun nails! Don’t forget to share your nail art on my facebook page and be sure to follow on Instagram user name is coolpolishblog.

Tuxedo nails, a base coat, with white and black polish, made with a nail art brush and dotting tool.

Cupcake nails-to help celebrate my friend’s birthday, I chose two of her favorite colors pink and purple!

Watermelon is a pink with two choices of green for the skin and black for the seeds.

Caviar a simple pink with pink micro beads to create the caviar look.

Tie-dyed Nail

Colors Used:
Base is Snow Me White by Sinful Colors
Mix of colors are from Color Club Nail Art Pink, purple, blue, green, orange and yellow.

I painted the base two coats of snow Me White, let the base dry then take a makeup sponge and randomly dab the colors you want to use on the sponge, take the sponge and dab the color onto the painted nail, repeat color and sponge work for each nail. Do not worry you will get some color on your skin, it is an easy cleanup once you’ve completed the look.

Here is a sample of the snow Me White; this went on so easy for a white polish.

Completed Tie-dyed look!

This review is on Revlon Nail Art Expressionist. Revlon sent me two colors from this line to try out, Vincent Van Gold and Silhouette. There are 10 shades all together: Post Modern, Pastel Punk, Jackson Polish, Silhouette, Vincent Van Gold, Pinkasso, Nights & Degas, Ulterior Motif, Pop Art, and Monet Monet. All come with a base color with a regular brush and a complimenting art color with a skinny nail art brush.

I used two coats of the base color and then used the art brush to free hand the tips and stripe. The art brush and polish are very easy to work with, any beginner or pro nail lover can easily create a wonderful design on their nails with this product.

Overall, Expressionist has been my favorite out of the Revlon Nail Art Collection. I like the complimenting shades and the ease of use with the skinny nail art brush. The color combinations are a perfect fit and definitely allow you to express yourself.
