NYC Strip Me OFF Base Coat

NYC sent me this product to review! I am a huge fan of the NYC Quick Dry Top Coat so when I heard they came out with the Strip Me Off Base Coat I just had to try it!!

The Strip Me Off Base Coat is for easy removal of a manicure including glitter using no nail polish remover. The product goes on white but dries quick and transparent.

Since this product intrigued me I wanted to test it with several different types and brands of polish on both manicures and a pedicure. I was impressed when a cream polish came right off with no residue, I then tested a glitter polish on a manicure I wore for five days, I had no chips and when I went to peel it off the glitter came off very easily, I actually did this in front of two coworkers who didn’t believe but wanted to, they were so impressed with the removal of the glitter polish they sat there stunned. I then tried this on my pedicure with PixieDust gasp I used a base coat with PixieDust!!  The pedicure wore for over a week and came right off when I gently peeled the polish away!

For those that follow me on Instagram: coolpolishblog, Facebook or Twitter: Cool Polish then you know how much I ADORE glitter polish, with that being said go out and purchase this base coat, it retails for $1.99 and can be found at most drugstores. This product is a fraction of the cost compared to OPI Glitter Off Pealable Base which retails for $9.00 and is owned by the same company!

This blog is for the remaining five polishes in the collection.

I’ll start by saying you NEED these two glitter polishes in your life, for $1.99 each you can’t go wrong, they go on smooth, dry quick, look amazing, and last on the nail.

Fashion Queen-gold glitter polish with larger lighter gold glitter.

Rule the City-dark grey glitter polish with larger red hex glitter.

For the three remaining polishes they are part of the In a New York Color Minute Collection two shimmers, and one jelly all have two coats.

Crown Gold-gold shimmer polish-I can live without this shade in my life the formula is nice though.

Queen of the City-dark burgundy shimmer, this is an amazing shade, typically I do not go for darker polishes but this one is worth picking up.

Royal Chick, a brown jelly.

Glitter gradient with Royal Chick and Fashion Queen.

NYC Top Gold Top Coat

I purchased the newly launched NYC Top Gold top coat, which was found at CVS for $1.89 per bottle. The polish is a gold leaf top coat that delivers a classy look.

The polish is similar to the Limited Edition Guilty Pleasure from Zoya, but at a fraction of the cost!

This swatch is two coats of Top Gold over Revlon’s Black Magic; it went on smooth and does take a while to dry.

It was very hard to capture this swatch on camera.

Holiday Nails-Christmas Tree!

With the holiday season upon us I decided to add a little holiday spirit to my nails! This is a simple Christmas tree look which can be done in all colors with different types of decorations.

For this look I used NYC In a New York Minute MoMA and High Line Green (both press samples), star shaped nail rhinestones and nail tape. I kept the look simple but could have added “bulbs” using a toothpick or dotting tools.

To get the look:

1. Paint the nails a base color of choice, I used NYC MoMa.
2. Take the nail art tape and create a triangle on the nail. (I do one nail at a time.)

3. Take two more pieces of nail tape and place them diagonally inside the triangle.

4. Using a color of your choice, I used NYC High Line Green, paint inside the triangle tape.
5. Take the tape off right after you painted the nail.
6. Add a quick dry top coat I used NYC In a New York Minute (press sample)
7. Place the star rhinestone on the top of the tree.

A few tips:
1. Use a fast drying nail color or top coat when using nail art tape; it speeds up the nail art process.

2. When adding rhinestones to your nails you can either place the quick top dry coat to one nail at a time then place the rhinestone on the nail, or use a toothpick or dotting tool to dot on some quick drying top coat where you will be placing the rhinestone.

#31DC2013 Day 15 Delicate Print!

Day 15 was made with polish that I purchased. The blue is by NYC Long Wearing Nail Enamel, it is a lovely light blue with hints of glitter the color is called Skyline Blue. The stamp plate I used for the design is Mash Stamp #49 and was stamped on using Sinful Colors Silver Screen. I finished the look with Seche Vite!

#31DC2013 Day Six Violet!

This nail art was made with NYC Lets Groove, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender and nail art I purchased from Claire’s.

For the triangle on the pointer and pinkie finger I used manicure tape.

I then took a dotting tool and added three stars on the pointer and pinkie.

The look was topped off with Out the Door by Northern Lights.

New NYC Disco Inferno!

While at my local CVS this weekend I spotted the new NYC display Called Disco Inferno. This is another collection of makeup and polish from NYC. The four polishes available in this collection are Boogie Nights, Flash Back, Lets Groove and a Top Coat called Disco Inferno, the three polishes are part of the In a New York Minute Quick Dry collectio. I picked up the Disco Inferno top coat and Lets Groove.

The Disco Inferno top coat definitely lives up to its name with a mix if blue and silver glitter, small hex glitter in silver and blue with a slightly larger silver hex glitter.

Lets Groove is a dark purple that of course dries fast, I Love this color it goes on so smooth and it doesn’t stain!

Disco Inferno is painted over a blue polish and has two coats. This photo does not capture the beauty of the disco dancing on my nails!

Lets Groove is two coats.

NYC, OPI and Sinful Colors Summer releases!

Over the weekend I ran to a Walgreens and a CVS, while out on my adventures I noticed three new summer 2013 launches for polish.

For OPI Nicole I came across some very cute neon sets of mini bottles called Notorious and Scandalous, I would love to add these minis for my Mini Mani Monday collection however I couldn’t bring myself to make the purchase. Each set came with a white for the base and then three bright colors.

For NYC I found the summer 2013 Rooftop Party collection, where NYC boasts “Two is always better than one!”  The collection has fun summer names such as Short Shorts. Each set came with a quick dry top coat and retailed for $1.99 each, CVS was having a sale buy one NYC get $1.00 off a second; I couldn’t resist this deal and purchased four colors.

The final release that I spotted was for Sinful Colors a summer 2013 Collection called Sail la Vie and another called Pool Side Polish. Most of the colors in both collections are reissues however there are a few which are new.

Fun Top Coats!

You can add a little more character to a nail color with top coats, here is my review on four fun top coats!

I absolutely love Out the Door Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat “Silver” top coat for a slight glitter shine which dries very quickly. My second favorite glitter top coat is from NYC called In a New York Color Minute this is a multi colored glitter top coat and dries in a very short time. Finger Paints Sparkle Top Coat is thick and takes forever to dry, I only recommend it if you have a lot of time on your hands, the finished product is a holographic glitter bar. Finally I sampled the NYC Matte me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat, this top coat goes on fast and dries within a reasonable time, with the Matte coat I was able to play with the dotting tool on the middle and index finger while completely covering the pinkie and ring finger nail.

The base is China Glaze Gothic Lolita all swatches have two coats of color. I hope you enjoy this blog on fun top coats! Tell me what your favorite fun top coat is!
