While at Bed, Bath & Beyond today I noticed a Sinful Colors display that only contained a top coat and a red polish called No Text Red #1530, the display wants you to paint your thumb nails red to help distracted drivers for everyone you love.

According to the Sinful Colors display they want you to use #notextred, to make this a social media phenomenon to become dedicated to the pledge and challenge of no texting and driving.

This initiative is fantastic and a great way to remind people of all ages to not text and drive, we all know cell phone use can distract drivers, lets spread the word and be a role model to no distractive driving.

I purchased six of the eight Limited Edition Polishes from the Create & Ornate Royal Statements Collection. This collection has a black nail art pen, a white and silver nail art polish, four Matte Effect, and four Glitter Effect polishes which are the Xtreme Wear polishes.

This display was found at CVS and were purchased as a buy one get one 50% off.

I purchased the four Matte Effects: Chain Mail, Wax Poetic, Blue Blood, and Royal Shyness, then two of the four Glitter Effects: Mind Your Manors, and Court Jest, I did take photos of the other two (photos below) and they are called Rogue Red, and Family Jewels. Rogue Red is much like Rouge Rush just with more red than pink.

The Mattes reminded me of the Quick Dri Matte, click here for swatches, however these went on much easier and has the brush which I like. Each swatch has two coats.

The Glitter Effects are all a mix of shard glitter, these swatches have one coat and went on smooth, the top coat is thin unlike recent glitter top coats from Sally Hansen.

Sally Hansen Limited Edition Color Foil Collection

Follow on Bloglovin

Sally Hansen sent me the Limited Edition Color Foil Nail Makeup Collection. This is another collection found in the Summer 2014 Limited Edition I Heart Nail Art Liquid Mani-A Collections. Click Glitter  or Matte for more swatches from the summer collection.

There are eight shades to choose from, for this blog I am reviewing Titanium Flush, Purple Alloy, and Cobalt Chrome. There has been a lot of questions floating around on this foil collection such as do these stamp and how long does the shine last, I not only swatched but also test wore this polish to answer these questions.

The finish on this polish is a metallic mirror like finish which means every imperfection on your nails will show so be sure to buff up the nails before using this collection.

When using this polish you do not apply a base or top coat and you will need two coats for the perfect look. The polish goes on quick, make sure to take excess polish off the brush prior to application, the polish will dry fast so there isn’t a long wait time to add that second coat. The polish does come out of the bottle looking streaky (make sure to shake well) but it does fade as the polish dries.

I test wore Cobalt Chrome for two days at the office, gym and normal daily wear and was pleasantly surprised that the polish did not fade like OPI Push and Shove did. The polish does eventually receive a few wear spots but nothing a quick touch up can’t resolve.

Does it stamp? Yes it does however not every shade is like the other! Purple Alloy and Titanium Flush stamped very easily however Colbalt Chrome gave me a little push back and I think it is only because it dried quicker.

This collection is a high maintaince type of polish for several reasons, one you really need to buff those nails, two you will need touch ups every few days for extended wear. I will only recommend this polish if you do not mind the extra maintaince and you enjoy a chrome look on the nails!

Sally Hansen sent me the new Limited Edition Color Frenzy Glitter Collection. This collection is part of the I Heart Nail Art Liquid Mani-a Collection. The bottles state texture polish but really these are more of a glitter top coat type of polish with a mixture of different glitters. There are eight different types of polishes to pick from. The glitters range from bar glitter to shards of glitter.

Some of these top coats are goopy and do not distribute the glitter fully, I have added the way each polish goes on with the descriptions. Each swatch is over a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri base.

Sea Salt-blue and gold mix of glitter with holographic shards-went on easy and evenly distributed

Candy Drop- pink matte hex glitter, small pink glitter ,small holo glitter and matte pink bar glitter-slight thick but glitter is evenly distributed

Splattered-matte pink hex glitter, black hex glitter, metallic gold shards, small red bar glitter and small gold glitter-goopy each stoke filled with glitter

Red White & Blue-red white and blue hex glitter in small and medium-slightly thick and you have to work with the bush to get glitter evenly distributed

Green Machine-matte green medium and small hex glitter, matte green bar glitter, and small holo glitter-went on smooth, glitter was evenly distributed

Sea Salt- small gold glitter with small gold hex glitter, small round blue glitter and gold shards-went on smooth and was evenly distributed

Paint Party-matt hex glitter and bar glitter in baby blue, peach and lime green-slightly thick but evenly distributed

At first my thought was matte in a Insta-Dri formula that sounds like a bad idea since some of my previous trials with Insta-Dri did not end well, BUT these formulas provided a pleasant surprise! All six colors went on smooth dried in no time and look great! I really like all of these colors even though High n’ Dry did scare me because teals stain me even with a base but I’m happy to announce this one did not stain me!

All swatches have two coats, I have a favorite only because it’s been my go to color for a quick cover up those nails while running out the door polish! Mauve Matter is a color you have to purchase from the collection.

Coastin’ By is a mint green

High n’ Dry is a teal

In A Haze is a deep purple

Mattitude In Motion is a bright pink with shimmer

Mauve Matter is a nude don’t let the name fool you and is a must have!

Sally Hansen Pacific Blue Versus Comparable Blue Polish

Follow on Bloglovin

Recently there has been an uproar in the nail community over Sally Hansen changing the formula and color of our beloved Pacific Blue. The color has been out since 2009 and is the must have blue for the collection for multiple reasons.

Pacific Blue is the perfect blue polish that not only goes on smooth it looks great in one coat and does not stain. As we rant and rave about this polish we must understand that Sally Hansen has to make changes for business purposes which still leaves us in wonder of why ruin a good thing. Yes the “new” reformulated Pacific Blue is gross in color and in application compared to the nail community’s original jewel, but hopefully Sally Hansen will hear the rants and let the original Pacific Blue rest in peace.

The good news is there are a few similar polishes in color and price to Pacific Blue like Sinful Colors Endless Blue and Sally Hansen Insta Dri In Prompt Blue which came out earlier this year. Both of these polishes go on nice but Endless Blue will need two coats.

In Prompt Blue is slightly darker but goes on just as smooth and only needs one coat! This polish is closer to Pacific Blue than the new imposter Pacific Blue so it you are looking for a polish that can deliver close in color and a refreshing application of Pacific Blue than I recommend giving In Prompt Blue a chance.

Bottles-so close in color right?

Can you guess which 2 nails have In Prompt Blue and which have Pacific Blue?

Middle and pinkie fingers have Pacific Blue, index and ring fingers have In Prompt Blue.

Can you guess which two fingers have Endless Blue and which two have Pacific Blue?

Index and ring finger have Pacific Blue while pinkie and middle finger have Endless Blue.

In Prompt Blue alone

Pacific Blue alone

Although Pacific Blue is slightly lighter in color the formula on In Prompt Blue is just as nice. Hopefully you found a back up of Pacific Blue but if you haven’t give In Prompt Blue or Endless Blue by Sinful Colors a chance.

Maybelline Polished Jewels Textured Top Coat

Maybelline Veil Details-Textured Top Coats!

Follow on Bloglovin

Today I purchased two of the new top coats from the Maybelline Veil Details Collection, I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond for $2.99 per bottle. There are five top coats to choose from from left to right starting at the top: Crystal Disguise, Rose Mirage, Blue Glaze, Amethyst Aura, and Teal Beam.

Maybelline states on the display that these top coats are textured, after viewing Crystal Disguise this does not look like a texture but an iridescent smooth top coat, but all others seem like they could be a slight texture.

I purchased Teal Beam and Amethyst Aura. Teal Beam has two coats and Amethyst Aura has one coat. I like how smooth both formulas are, each brush stroke evenly delivers glitter.

These are top coats and will work with any base color combination, they do provide a slight texture but not the typical texture feel. If you pick at your nail with the traditional textures you may not pick with these since the texture is slight.

Teal Beam-small hex matte glitter in light blue and green, seemed to offer the most texture out of all.

Amethyst Aura-small glitter mixed with small hex glitter.

Salon Perfect Paint the Town Red,White & Blue Collection

I purchased two bottles of Salon Perfect Top Coats found on the end cap display at Walmart. The display was patriotic and had some cool top coats along with solid colored polish, liners, pens, decals and tape. I purchased Star Spangled and Save Me a Spot.

My favorite top coat was Star Spangled, the top coat went on with a few stars but I did have to add stars with my dotting tool. Occasionally the stars would get caught in the brush.

Save a Spot For Me was a bust no spots came off the brush no matter how hard I fished them out. I used a dotting tool to apply each spot!

Both swatches have a quick dry top coat to smooth out the nail. I have long hair without the top coat the stars and spots would have been caught or tugged on my hair.

If you like the patriotic spots and are willing to use your dotting tool to apply then I say make the purchase otherwise save the $3.98. I would recommend picking up Star Spangled I can see this top coat being used in so many different nail art styles.

While at Walgreen I spotted a large display for Sinful Colors, the display had repromotes, permanent colors, nail tattoos and a few new colors! I purchased 12 bottles 3 of which are a texture and seem to come from the Sinful Shine Crystal Crush Collection released in the Fall of 2013, however these are the standard $1.99 black top bottles. The three colors are Ruby Mine, Orange Crush and Face the Facets.

I am highly impressed with the formula and wear of this textured polish I would rank the quality right up there with Zoya Pixie Dust and OPI Liquid Sand. Word on the internet is that Walgreens will be having their .99 Sinful Colors sale June 1st – June 7th so I recommend you run to Walgreens and purchase these three must haves.

The Zoya website states Monet is a multi-colored cellophane holographic special effect topper. We’ve seen holographic toppers before but this one is a little different due to the multi-color cellophane.

This base is a sheer pink which does go well over any color. The formula is thick and can be challenging to work with. The swatches below have one thick coat. If you have the time and patience then I recommend purchasing this topper otherwise save the $10.00.

If you follow my blog you know I’m a sucker for glitter polish, recently I’ve been let down by a few purchases and was a little reluctant to pick these up based off the look when I opened the bottle (I always look at the condition of the brush before making a purchase) but was intrigued by the glitter packed into each bottle. Needless to say I was very satisfied with the polish, all four went on smooth has two coats and makes me smile! If you see these I definitely recommend picking up one or two as they are great for a complete manicure or accent fingers for nail art.

Balinese Bay- a mix of hex glitter in three sizes a larger hex in bright pink with smaller hex in black and bright pink, mixed with smaller hex in silver and purple!

Lana’i Lagoon-slight blue base with large light blue hex glitter with medium hex in blue and green then a mix of small hex in blue and silver.

Mayan Riviera- large hex glitter in bright pink, light blue, orange, silver and gold mixed with medium hex in green, bright pink, orange, silver and gold, then a mix of small green and gold hex!

Moroccan Oasis- slight grey base with large hex glitter in lime green, blue and, silver-pinkish hex then small lime green hex mixed with tiny blue hex!

Surprise by China Glaze!

Follow on Bloglovin

I purchased five new China Glaze Top Coat Glitters at Sally’s Beauty Supply last weekend during a BOGO sale. These chunky glitters are the Limited Edition Surprise! Collection new for Spring 2014! In the display there are five top coats to choose from, the top coats are hexagon glitters ranging from metallic fuchsia or purple to matte in light blue, pink, yellow, purple, green, peach, and black with a clear base.

As you all know I am a sucker for glitter so you can imagine my response when I spotted the display, it was a mouth dropping gasp for air moment, if you love nail polish you’ve been there do not deny it!

These polishes were made to layer over a base color; I used random solids for a base. There is no problem getting glitter out of the bottle or spreading the glitter over each nail.

Revlon Uptown Tweeds & Downtown Leather Polish Collection

Follow on Bloglovin

While at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond store this weekend I found a new Limited Edition display from Revlon. The Display consists of four Uptown Tweeds and four Downtown Leather polishes. Each bottle retails for $4.49, the Leathers are a black, blue, light grey, and a deep purple, while the Tweeds are a Pink/purple, green/white, black/white, and copper/pink combos.

I purchased one Leather and one Tweed. The Leather I picked up is a purple called Downtown, and the Tweed is Martini Lunch. The only reason I did not purchase more than one of these is that I have the entire Sinful Colors Luxe Leather Collection and their Tinsel N’ice Collection and felt the colors were similar and I am over the tinsel look.

Downtown is a deep delicious purple that is thick and will work in one coat, the ring finger has two coats to show the difference.

Martini Lunch, love the green and white combo.

Milani Sugar Rush Polish!

Follow on Bloglovin

I purchased the six new gold label Sugar Rush Polish Collection from Milani which is available now in the permanent display at CVS. Clearly the trend for spring 2014 is glitter top coats and there are plenty to choose from however I did see a difference in the Milani versus the other brands and that would be the color choices.

For the most part I was satisfied with these top coats but there are two which I can live without. The two I could live without are Sugar Cane and Sugar Rush, they look better in the bottle than on the nail and after using both of them. Sugar Cane reminds me of Sinful Colors Tinsel N’ice, and Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat. So far the only brand which has done the fuzzy top coat right is Sally Hansen. Sugar Rush will be good for glitter placement.

Sugar Coated is a lime green glitter mix in round, multi sized hex glitter and bar glitter with a hint of small holographic gold glitter.

Sugar Cane is a bar glitter in blue and pink bar glitter with different sized white hex glitter.

Sugar Rim is a matte glitter in a medium round light blue, with smaller round lime green, bronze and black with holographic fragments.

Revlon Graffiti Top Coat!

Last weekend I Purchased the two new Graffiti Top Coats by Revlon at Walgreens. I’ve always been a fan of Revlon but these two top coats are amazing and they make me love Revlon even more!

If you are looking for Graffiti on your nails then these are a MUST buy. Although similar to the Maybelline Clearly Spotted and Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear Rosey Shooter and Strobe Flash, you will find that they are slightly different. If you follow me and read my blog you know that I am also a huge fan of Sally Hansen and just like Revlon have been for a very long time. There are differences in the polishes such as the reds are slightly different and Sally Hansen has more white hex glitter in both versus Revlon which is packed, I mean packed full of glitter graffiti goodness!

Revlon’s Red Graffiti Top Coat is jam packed with red and white hex glitter is all sizes, it also has white bar glitter.

Revlon’s Black Graffiti Top Coat is also jam packed but with black and white hex glitter and black bar glitter.

The Graffiti Top Coats goes on smooth even thought the brush is loaded up with the glitter goodness. In my swatches I have only one coat, yes just one, how amazing! Unlike many other glitter polishes which brings the glitter closer to the tips as you apply this top coat actually spreads the glitter out equally on the nail.

Thank you Revlon for perfecting the hex glitter top coat!

Finger Paints polish is buy one get one free until the end of February at Sally’s so be sure to stop in and pick up a few new colors!

A few things you will notice is that Finger Paints changed their branding and the brush is slightly wider. I love the new brush its just right, the polish goes on quick and smooth.

The Kaleidoscope Collection has five flaked colored polishes; each has a clear base with a hint of different flakes. The names are: Abstract Attraction, Colorful Dream, Psychedelic Hue, Symmetrical Symphony, and Vivid Reflection. The collection reminds me of Color Clubs covered in Diamonds.

Wet n Wild Mega Rocks Glitter Nail Color

While at Walgreens the other day I purchased two of the newly launched Wet n Wild Mega Rocks nail polish, each bottle has a coupon for $1.00 off and normally retails for $2.99 each. I purchased Stick It To the Man, and At Will Call.

Both polishes are a glitter top coat, the bottle labels them as a Glitter Nail Color.

Follow on Facebook IG: coolpolishblog Twitter: coolpolish

Stick It To the Man caught my eyes because it has a mix of hex and square glitter. In the bottle the square glitter looks like a copper color but on the nail it is actually an iridescent color, the hex glitter is two sizes small and medium in a dark blue and teal.

At Will Call is a mix of small and medium hex glitter, the small hex is pink and the medium is purple, I really like the mix of these two glitters!

Mini Color Club & Indie look alike?

Follow on Bloglovin

While at Bed Bath and Beyond this weekend I spotted a display of polishes from Color Club, this display held about twenty colors which included some basic colors, glitters and three that really caught my eyes! I figured these would be perfect for the Mini Mani Monday blog! What I found where polishes that resembled Indie polishes. The mini bottles retail for $2.99 each.

The three colors I picked up are: For You, Oh Boy!, and Bundle of Joy. I really thought there should be a pink Indie look alike in this display but did not locate one or a spot for it.

Please excuse the nubs, my pointer finger decided to have a breakdown this week.

Let’s start with my favorite For You, yes that name is correct it is like Color Club made this color for me! It is a nice white polish with small hex glitter in red, teal, light and dark purple with a mix of larger hex glitter in light purple, yellow and red, for those of you that follow the blog you know how much I LOVE glitter and the yellow really made me smile! This swatch has three coats.

I’m not going to lie I was really disappointed with Bundle of Joy, it was more like Disastrous Monday, I tried the polish two times, both with a base coat but the polish is thick and goopy and I hate that so much! The color of the polish is much like Color Clubs Blue Ming. The glitter found in this polish is small and medium hex glitter in a gray-silver and black, with a larger hex glitter in black. This swatch has two coats.

Oh Boy is a nice blue, the polish is thick but not hard to work with, this has small and medium hex glitter in a gray-silver and black, then larger hex glitter in black. This swatch has two coats.

Wet n Wild Beauty Benefits Nail Polish

Last weekend I ran into my local Dollar Store to pick up some Reynolds Wrappers, I use these under my paper towel when painting my nails; they also come in handy with glitter removal and placing polish on it for nail art. While at the Dollar Store I spotted a bin of Wet n Wild Beauty Benefits nail polish!

I purchased seven bottles, three of which are jellies; all of the polishes have glitter in them either in the form of micro or small. There is one thing which threw me off and that was that none of the polishes have a name, so with my swatches I gave them a name.

This polish has a small brush, goes on quick and dries faster than expected!

Purple Passion-fools you with the look of the bottle but this polish is indeed a jelly!

Mini Mani Monday NYX Style

Follow on Bloglovin

Ok so I know I haven’t been the best at posting my Mini Mani Monday blogs, which are about creating manicures with mini bottles of polish. I have been working on my Masters Degree and thankfully only have three classes left, on top of that I do work a full time job plus try to have a life so blogging will sometimes suffer, however my goal for 2014 is to be more proactive on my Mini Mani Monday blogs.

This weeks Mini Mani Monday is inspired by a homemade thank you card I received from a close friend. To create this look I used three mini polishes from the NYX Decadent Delights NPSET06 which I purchased at Ulta.

The three colors are Bone White (base color) Smooth Operator (stamping) and Shimmery Pink (flowers). For the stamp I used Mash Plate #45, the flowers were created with a dotting tool, and then I used some nail rhinestones from Claire’s to replicate the center of the flower on the card.

I was pleased with how this Mini Mani came out and hope you are too! If you create a Mini Mani Monday please tag me on Instagram or share them on my Facebook page so I can see them.

Sinful Colors Pride

While at Walgreens this weekend I spotted a new Sinful Colors called Pride, this is a glitter bomb filled with color. I’m a sucker for glitter so I purchased a bottle. The look will remind you of a few other brands such as Rainbow In the S-Klie from Nicole By OPI, or Piñata- Yada-Yada by Ulta, however Pride differs with much more and brighter glitter in the bottle.

The glitter ranges from small and large hex glitter in red, pink, gold, teal, and green. The swatch is over Sinful Colors Classified and has one coat of Pride with no top coat.

If you are looking for a glitter bomb to add to your collection then Pride is a must and at $1.99 a bottle it is totally worth it.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Gold Dust Aka Jewel Textured Nails!

I have found these on large end cap displays at Walgreens that also include makeup, and then at CVS in nail polish only displays. The two shades I purchased are Too Dimensional?, and Rough Around The Edges.

I’m totally in love with this line, it’s much like OPI liquid sand, and Zoya Pixie Dust but with way more sparkle and a fraction of the price.

Each swatch has two coats but one would work! The polish goes on easy and dries fairly fast. The polish is thick and packed with glitter so watch your brush otherwise it will get clumpy. This is a textured polish so if you are not a fan stay away.

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Polish

Follow on Bloglovin

Sally Hansen sent me six bottles of the newly launched Triple Shine nail polish. These polishes have hit most major drug stores and have been found at Target. The polish is available in 29 shades, the shades range from cremes, metallics to glitters and a top coat.

A few things you will notice right off are the many shade choices and of course the bottle shape. I like the bottle shape it is good for storage, the top pops off and gives you a nice handle to hold, the brush in this line is the same brush found in the Complete Salon Manicure collection. I was a little bummed to find they didn’t use a more streamlined brush to go with the bottle shape, but then again I’m not a fan of wide polish brushes!

The six shades that were sent to me are Play Koi, Kelp Out, Vanity Flare, Sparks Fly, Pearly Whites, and Twinkled Pink. All swatches have two coats and no top coat.

Follow on Facebook, IG: coolpolishblog, Twitter: coolpolish

Play Koi is a bright creme orange which I love, this shade is great for the fingers or the toes.

Kelp Out is a creme green, I’m not a fan of green polish but this is nice.

Vanity Flare is a beautiful purple creme.

For the glitter swatches I did them over color and two by themselves so you can see the jelly base.

This is Sparks Fly over Vanity Flare, this is a blue jelly base with small silver and blue glitter with a combo of large and small hex glitter in silver. This is a polish I see in the store and think I must have this thankfully I already do and you should too!

Pearly Whites is a iridescent glitter with iridescent flakes, the base is goopy.

Twinkled Pink is a pink jelly base with silver and gold glitter mixed with silver and gold hex glitter, this polish gives off an amazing gold glow. The swatch is over Play Koi and the glitter placement is from the hex glitter in the bottle, the two end fingers have one coat. This is another must have for the collection.

This swatch is so you can see the jelly base in both Sparks Fly, and Twinkle Pink, the swatches are over a white base coat and have two coats each!

Sally Hansen Salon effects Glitz Blitz!

Sally Hansen sent me some of their Salon effects Real Nail Polish Strips to try. I was slightly curious about nail strips but had a few doubts on them such as fitting my nails, hard to put on, and quick chipping…..boy was I wrong!

I was able to put these nails polish strips on in no time and they came in different sizes so they fit all of my nails!!

There are 16 nail polish strips, a cuticle stick, and a small nail file in each box.

To use the strips
Select the strips that match with your nails best
Start with clean nails
Push back your cuticles with the cuticle stick
Shape your nails with the file
Swipe each nail with polish remover to remove any oils or polish
Place the best fitting strip onto the nail
Shape and smooth the nail edge with the nail file

Surprisingly these nails strips work well, I abuse my nails everyday with a keyboard, dinner dishes and normal wear and tear, they have held up much better than I had anticipated. This product is something I would use again!

Salon effects can be found at most drugstore retailer and will sell for $9.99 each. Be sure to give them a try.

Holiday Nails-Christmas Tree!

Follow on Bloglovin

With the holiday season upon us I decided to add a little holiday spirit to my nails! This is a simple Christmas tree look which can be done in all colors with different types of decorations.

For this look I used NYC In a New York Minute MoMA and High Line Green (both press samples), star shaped nail rhinestones and nail tape. I kept the look simple but could have added “bulbs” using a toothpick or dotting tools.

To get the look:

1. Paint the nails a base color of choice, I used NYC MoMa.
2. Take the nail art tape and create a triangle on the nail. (I do one nail at a time.)

3. Take two more pieces of nail tape and place them diagonally inside the triangle.

4. Using a color of your choice, I used NYC High Line Green, paint inside the triangle tape.
5. Take the tape off right after you painted the nail.
6. Add a quick dry top coat I used NYC In a New York Minute (press sample)
7. Place the star rhinestone on the top of the tree.

A few tips:
1. Use a fast drying nail color or top coat when using nail art tape; it speeds up the nail art process.

2. When adding rhinestones to your nails you can either place the quick top dry coat to one nail at a time then place the rhinestone on the nail, or use a toothpick or dotting tool to dot on some quick drying top coat where you will be placing the rhinestone.

The two swatches I did are Mermaid Sirene and Shimmery Pink Rose Scintillant. Both swatches are on a clear base coat and no top coat.

Mermaid Sirene-a delicious emerald green with aqua and green glitter flecks, this swatch has three coats

Shimmery Pink Rose Scintillant- a metallic pink, this swatch has two coats.

CoverGirl Hunger Games Catching Fire the Capitol Collection!

I purchased two more of the Catching Fire polishes by CoverGirl Capitol Collection; the two colors are Inferno and Scalding Emerald, for my previous review of four others from this collection please go here. These two colors are mini Glosstinis, .11 fluid ounces and are metallic polishes.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to purchase any of these polishes I highly recommend it. CoverGirl has made it easier to locate these polishes and the makeup that goes along with the Hunger Games Collection; larger displays are showing up in Walgreens and Walmart.

Both swatches have a clear base and two coats of color! I was very satisfied with the results on both, the polish dances on the nails!

Scalding Emerald-a smokey base with bronze, gold, emerald green and blue metallic flecks.

Inferno- a delicious mix of red and orange base with bronze and gold metallic flecks, this photo shows more red then orange but the polish has more of a daily orange glow.

Revlon Parfumerie Nail Enamel for Fall 2013!

Follow on Bloglovin

Revlon sent me three Parfumerie Nail Enamels to review.  The collection is made up of 24 scented colors in a variety of finishes from creams to glitters and is divided into 3 fragrance and color families; Fruits & Florals for exotic and fruity fragrance notes in vibrant, punchy shades; Sweets & Spices for woody, spicy fragrance notes in deep, rich shades and Freshes, for crisp, clean scents in light and airy shades.

Fruits & Florals                       Sweets & Spices                     Freshes

African Tea Rose                    Autumn Spice                         Beachy

Apricot Nectar                         Balsam Fir                              Fresh Linen

China Flower                          Bordeaux                                Lavender Soap

Ginger Melon                         Chocolate Truffle                    Powder Puff

Lime Basil                              Espresso                                 Sunlit Grass

Orange Blossom                    Italian Leather                         Surf Spray

Pink Pineapple                       Moonlit Woods                        Tropical Rain

Wild Violets                            Spun sugar                              Wintermint

These shades go on smooth and provide a light fragrance that lasts all day! There are so many vibrant, shiny fragrant colors to choose from that there is one for each mood and personality!

I love this little bottle and the brush is my FAVORITE! I have always been a fan of the Revlon brush it always makes me happy when applying nail polish! Previously I reviewed Wintermint here and fell in love with the line; Revlon sent me Spun Sugar, Moonlit Woods and Autumn Spice to review.

Follow on Facebook and Instagram @ coolpolishblog

Spun Sugar- A silver metallic, I was not happy with the results of this polish, I tried it with two different clear base coats and came up with bubbles each time, this makes me sad because the fragrance is just right for the name and polish color. This polish did go on smooth!

Moonlit Woods- A purple metallic and much like the Spun Sugar I was not satisfied with the end result of the polish as this had bubbles too even though it went on smooth!

Autumn Spice-My favorite of the three a deep burgundy with micro gold glitter, this really is autumn wrapped up in color and fragrance!

Mini Mani Monday Movember Style!

Follow on Bloglovin

Ok so I have been a little busy and have failed on being good about posting Mini Mani Mondays, but now I am back at it! This mini is for Movember, I picked up the mustache decals at Walgreens for $2.00. The nail polish is a mini Sephora green called Jungle Playground.

I went with green to make the Movember manicure manly, however I do plan on creating some pink or purple mustache manicures this month!

All I did to create this manicure was paint two coats of Jungle Playground, added a quick drying top coat and quickly placed a mustache on each nail!

Sally Hansen Holiday 2013 Bling in the New Year!

Follow on Bloglovin

I purchased four new Complete Salon Manicure polishes from Sally Hansen; the four polishes are part of Sally Hansen’s Holiday 2013 Bling in the New Year Collection. Some of these polishes are reissues, the four I purchased are new, they are called Twinkle Toes-ty, 3, 2, 1derland, Midnight, Glitz and Fa-la-la-lavender. These were found at CVS and I was able to pick up four polishes for the price of two because Sally Hansen placed a coupon for buy one get one free on the display!

This review is on Twinkle Toes-ty and 3, 2,1derland. I used a base color under each swatch the name will be noted with the photo. When I posted the swatch for 3,2, 1derland on Instagram some thought it was a duplicate of Mermaids Tale, it is similar but different. You can see my review on Mermaids Tale here, the difference between these two polishes are that Mermaids Tale is a navy jelly base with more teal and less green glitter where 3,2,1derland is a clear base with green and teal multi-sized hex glitter that is more green than teal. These polishes have a wider brush which I am not a fan of.

Twinkle Toes-ty- on a base from Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear called Red Carpet, the polish is a clear base with multi-sized gold holographic hex glitter. Each nail has three coats.

3,2,1derland- on a base from Sally Hansen lustre shine called Moonstone, I took one photo outside and one inside so you can see the difference, the ring finger has three coats and the other fingers are a sponge gradient.

Sally Hansen Fall 2013 Insta-Dri!

Follow on Bloglovin

I received three Limited Edition Insta-Dri polishes from Sally Hansen; the three colors they sent are from their Fall 2013 Rent The Runway release and are called No S-pear Time, Chop Chop Copper and Quick Jeanius.

The polish is fantastic; it goes on smooth with the Perfectionist Brush. This is a quick dry high shine polish and will dry in 60 seconds with a metallic finish. These deep fall colors are a nice addition to the collection, if you are a little reluctant to purchase darker shades I understand but will say these are great as they do not stain your nails or cuticles like many other blue and green polishes will.

Each swatch has a clear base coat and no top coat. I applied one coat with No S-pear Time and Quick Jenious, Chop Chop Copper needed three coats.

No S-pear Time- a delicious olive green with a silver metallic fleck

Chop Chop Copper-do not let the bottle fool you, this polish goes on lighter than you expect it to, you will need at least three coats to obtain a deep color on the nails, the end result is a copper with pink micro glitter.

Quick Jeanious- a beautiful deep blue with silver metallic fleck, I was not a fan of dark blue polish until now.

NYX and Wet n Wild Mini Sets!

Follow on Bloglovin

While out running errands today I spotted two new mini sets, the first is by Wet n Wild, I spotted this at CVS for $4.99, the other set is by NYX which was found at Ulta and retails for $19.99.

The Wet N Wild set has eight of their Salon Color Best Sellers, with instructions on the back on how to create some nail art designs. I did not purchase this set as I have many of these colors in full size.

The NYX set is a real treat for me, I say this as I have never been able to find this brand of polish near me so this will be my first experience with NYX polish. There are several different sets, the one I purchased is NPSET06 which has 18 mini bottles, the set includes some nudes, metallics, glitters and some staple colors for the Holidays. I will be blogging more on this set shortly.

Sinful Colors Glitzed and Glittered Holiday 2013

I purchased the six Sinful Colors that make up the Holiday 2013 Glitz and Glittered Collection. The six names are Top Me Off, Diamonds Are Forever, Gilded, Girls Best Friend, Silver Belle and 24 Karate. Since I am a fanatic for glittered nail polish these are a welcomed addition to my polish collection.

For the most part they can be worn alone or over a base color. Each swatch has at least two or more coats. All of these polishes look much better in person and was very hard to capture with the camera. None of these catch and do not feel like texture.

Be sure to check out the Sinful Colors Holiday Metallic’s here and the Tinsel and N’ice here.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and pink can be found from manicures to the football field. For a number of years OPI has had Breast Cancer Awareness sets and they donate $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen fund in honor of breast cancer awareness.

I purchased the 2013 OPI Breast Cancer Awareness set called Pink of Hearts from Ulta.
The set has two full sized bottles of polish, 10 pink ribbon decal and 10 nail crystals. The solid pink polish is Pink-ing of You and a matte glitter called More Than a Glimmer.

This is a fun set as it has two great polishes and allows you to express yourself in endless nail designs. Pinking of you is a sheer soft pink. More Than a Glimmer is a combination of multi sized hex glitter in pink, silver and teal with a clear matte base to give a chrome finish.

Sinful Colors Holiday 2013 Collection Tinsel N’ice

Follow on Bloglovin

I purchased seven new holiday polishes from Sinful Colors; this collection is called Tinsel and N’ice and can be found in the Decorate Decadently display at Walgreens. You can see the new Mirror Metallic’s here, which is also part of this display! The seven polishes in the Tinsel N’ice collection are Silver Rainbows, Tinsel Town, Pink Icicles,Cold As Ice, Gold Tinsel, Tinsel and Shine, and Spiked Ice.

For the swatches I placed a Sinful Colors polish as the base, each color will be noted with the swatch. The Tinsel N’ice will be great for top coats, an accent nail or part of nail art. The formula is a thick clear base with different colored tinsel like bar glitter; the only two that will not resemble Tinsel are Cold As Ice and Spiked Ice.

For a comparison of other bar glitters which I have blogged about you can check out my review here for Sally Hansen and here Salon Perfect.

I can see this collection being used for everyday or other Holidays as well! I have a favorite in this collection it is Tinsel and Shine,  a bar glitter party on your nails and is perfect for any celebration nail design!

Be sure to check out coolpolishblog on Instagram for a swatch without a base color, I can also be found on Facebook!

Revlon Parfumerie Wintermint Polish- New Scented Polish

Follow on Bloglovin

I purchased one of the new Revlon Parfumerie polishes from Bed Bath and Beyond, the polish I picked up is called Wintermint. It is a nice mint green with a glitter sparkle and small hex glitter. This polish does smell of mint right from the bottle and one the nails after it dries! Since this is a glitter polish it does not dry smooth like a normal polish, this polish does not catch and is not a textured polish.

The bottles in this collection are super cute and are shaped like a square perfume bottle; the bottle size is .4 fluid ounces.

This polish collection has been appearing in retailers, and it seems like this collection may be a new permanent fixture. If you like glitter and scented polish then I highly recommend you pick a few of these gems up; there are multiple scent collections and colors to choose from!

2013 Maybelline LE Brocades Silver Swank & Crushed Crimson

Follow on Bloglovin

Over the weekend I purchased these two Limited Edition Brocade Polishes by Maybelline. As a huge fan of glitter both of these make me very happy!

Crushed Crimson is a deep red glitter with crimson colored hex glitter mixed with gold glitter and round gold glitter to give a nice gold sparkle. The photos do not really show the gold but there is a hint which creates the perfect mix for the Holidays!

Silver Swank is silver glitter with a mix of gold glitter and silver hex glitter. I can not even express how amazing this polish is. The photo does no justice for this sparkling gem! As you move your fingers the polish goes from silver to gold it is so wonderful!

Both swatches are on a clear base coat and have two coats. If you love glitter polish and can find these DO NOT pass them up they are a must have!

New Fall Sinful Colors!

I found six new polishes from Sinful Colors today! I found them at Walmart in the large display with the reissue and new Metallic’s which can be seen here.

The six colors which I purchased are:
Espionage-eggshell
Classified-slate with a hint if green
Yes Officer-blue
Tabac-brown
Sexy Spy- berry
Roaring-bluish grey

Four of the colors have names that seem to belong in the legal department! I did not care for the formula on Espionage and Tabac, they were thick and sticky to brush on, while the others went on very smooth. If you need a brown skip Tabac and go with Coffee which has been found at Walgreens, it is a much better formula. My two favorites in this collection are Sexy Spy and Yes Officer.

3. Take a makeup sponge and add a stripe of white, orange and yellow, then rock the sponge over the nail
4. Take a quick drying top coat and go over each nail

I created this design with Orly Truly Tangerine and stamped with Pure Ice Silver Mercedes using Mash Stamp plate 45 (which I purchased from Amazon) I then topped off the look with Seche Vite Fast Dry top coat.

To get this look:
1. Start with a good base coat
2. Paint nails with two coats of Orly Truly Tangerine
3. After the nails are dry stamp the nails with Pure Ice Silver Mercedes
4. Add top coat.

New Metal With Color and Reissue Metallic Sinful Colors!

Follow on Bloglovin

Tonight at Wal-Mart I spotted a display on the end cap named Metal With Color. Five of these metallics are reissues from the Fall 2012 Hot Flash Metallic’s Collection. I own the collection but there are two new colors that caught my eye: Lingot and Dark Bronze. A quick Google search showed that they may be new to the US market but previously released in the European market.

Here is the top of the display:

A reminder of the colors in the original collection is: Moss Have, Gone Platinum, Zincing of You, Hot Hot Heat, Super Nova, Precious Metal, Heavy Metal and Hot Wired.

If you didn’t pick up the entire collection and wish you had here are the five reissues that are available in the display: Precious Metal, Moss Have, Heavy Metal, Hot Wired, and Super Nova

Leather Luxe by Sinful Colors!

I purchased four colors from the Leather Luxe collection, the four leathers I picked up are: Get It On, Cold Leather, Leather Loose and Whipped.

The polish is a matte polish that goes on thick (only one coat needed) for added fun use a top coat to create a combo matte and shiny look. I did attempt to use whipped with a stamp but was unsuccessful.

If you like dark colors and matte polishes then this collection is for you, with a price tag of only $1.99 per bottle these would be a good addition to the collection.

Here are two more swatches of the Sally Hansen Limited Edition Glitter polish for Fall 2013. I LOVE this collection so much! I have always been a fan of Sally Hansen and can honestly say they perfected this collection!
These two swatches are Sea-ly String and Confetti Punch. Both are fun and packed full of glitter!

For a base I used Sally Hansen Maximum Strength base coat, both have three coats of polish and no top coat, and for those wondering NO it does not get caught in hair or on clothes! I have hair to the middle of my back and have had no problems with this collection as of yet!

Sea-ly String is a jelly blue base with a mix of small and large regular and hex glitter in black, silver and blue with black bar glitter. this photo does no justice for the polish!

Confetti Punch is a jelly base that is rose in color and its packed full of mini pink glitter then multi sized hex glitter in blue, gold and pink.

Ulta Nail FX Review!

Follow on Bloglovin

A while ago I picked up the Ulta Nail FX Topcoat kit. This kit includes four top coats:

Color Enhancing: Ulta boasts to brighten and intensify any nail enamel by making a pop in direct sunlight and glow under a black light.

Matte: Creates a matte top effect over any shade.

Holographic: A rainbow holograph effect when used alone or as a frost over any color.

Smokey: Gives shades a dark smokey effect.

I would not recommend three of the four top coats from this kit, I am disappointed in these and it saddens me because I do like Ulta nail polish. The matte top coat was very faint my photo does show some shine from the light however it should be known that this top coat falls short on the matte look and leaves a mix of shiny and matte. My suggestion would be to purchase a Revlon or NYC matte top coat over Ulta. The Color Enhancing top coat was a huge disappointment for me. I used a Revlon base color and applied the top coat, I took a photo outside in the sun to see it sparkle but all I saw were bubbles in the top coat. The smokey top coat works however it streaks when you apply it.

Color Enhancing: The one plus is that it does glow under a black light; I will try to mix it with nail polish to create some designs that will glow.

Under black light:

In sun:

Matte:

Holographic: Saves the day! I like this one a lot, it delivers the holographic look I wanted!

Smokey: This will work to change up a chipped manicure or as part of a gradient look. Pointer and middle finger have the top coat.

L’Oreal Polish with Sally Hansen Top Coat!

Follow on Bloglovin

Recently I purchased my first L’Oreal polish, both are jellies. One is a delicious purple called Berry Nice and the other is Wishful Pinking. I swatched both colors alone and then added a modified Sally Hansen Disco Ball with some LA Splash glitter as a top coat to each.

The L’Oreal polish is smooth goes on with no streaks and has three coats. Working with this polish is very easy. For the Sally Hansen I added some glitter from LA Splash and created a glorious top coat!

Wishful Pinking is a light pink that is perfect for anyone that works in a professional environment and can not wear bright nails; it would also be great to cover up stained nails.

First Indie Polish!

Follow on Bloglovin

Recently I made a purchase of my first Indie Nail Polish. I purchased three bottles from
Coated in Polish, Baby Boy Blue, Neon Bubble Gum and You’re So Square which was inspired by me! Jess was quick to reply to my email and order, I had the order in a few days and she sent a mini bottle of Peach Soup which is a nice addition to my mini collection.

Baby Boy Blue is a light blue base with a mix of neon green stars and square glitter, neon blue hex with a hot orange and silver mini hex.

Neon Bubble Gum is a bright pink base with gold squares mini hex glitter in neon pink, black and white, and neon blue hex glitter. I really love this color!

You’re So Square is a white base with two different size squares there are small metallic squares in gold, green and blue then a non metallic pink with a mix of larger squares in purple, neon green, and neon pink. Thank you Jess for making this square polish so quickly after my request for square glitter polish!

Peach Soup is a peach colored polish with mini yellow hex and a mix of larger hex in neon green, neon pink and orange.

Each swatch has Orly Ridge Filler for the base and three coats for each color and no top coat. The glitter in the polish does not catch on clothes or hair and layers well with each coat.

Milani and Sally Hansen Nail Designs!

Follow on Bloglovin

Here are two recent nail designs; both were fun and fairly easy to create! One design is a gradient done with Sally Hansen polish and some loose glitter, while the other was made with Milani nail color and chevron nail stickers which I purchased at Sally’s Beauty Supply. All supplies used for these nails were purchased by me.

For both looks I started with a base coat which I have trusted for years, about 6 months ago I stopped using this base coat and quickly regretted it. The base coat that I swear by is Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat; it goes on smooth and dries fast. (It is not a quick dry top coat)

Sally Hansen Gradient

The two colors I used where from the Salon Manicure Collection, The purple is called Purple Pulse and the pink is Cherry Cherry Bang Bang. For this look I used a makeup sponge placed a little of each color and rocked the sponge with the polish on my fingernails. Once the polish was dry I took a small brush and brushed some loose glitter onto the base of the nail and sealed it in with the Double Duty Top coat. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Milani Chevron

For this look I used three Milani colors Sweetest Pink, Tropical Fiesta and Silver Dazzle. I stared the base color with Sweetest Pink let it dry then applied the chevron nail guides to the tips of my nails, from there I painted the tips Silver Dazzle. It is important that you remove the tape soon after applying the polish otherwise you will ruin the perfect lines. Once the tape was removed I placed another chevron sticker guide below the Silver Dazzle tip and used Tropical Fiesta.

Nicole By OPI Gumdrops Collection

While at my local CVS I spotted a display of Nicole by OPI Gumdrops Collection. I picked up one bottle called Candy is Dandy. The collection is a limited edition and has eight colors available. The price at CVS was $6.99 per bottle.

What I like about this collection is the wrapper on the bottle, it doesn’t allow dirty fingers to test the polish and put it back on the shelf, I am a huge advocate for this type of packaging. In addition to the packaging the colors are a pretty good mix.

The finish is a” sugar-like” matte with sparkles. I used an Orly base coat with two coats of color. This polish does not need a top coat and seemed to dry pretty quickly. Candy is Dandy was the only one out of the collection that seemed to have hex glitter mixed in.

This polish really is better in person!

Today’s Mini Mani Monday is brought to you by Wet N Wilds Color Wave Collection., I purchased this polish a few months ago.

The base is two coats or Orly’s Ridge Filler. The three pinks were sponged on with a Target brand makeup sponge. The top coat is the glitter form the Color Wave Collection.

When doing Ombre nails its good to start with a pale colored base, before you add the Ombre colors with the sponge its good to brush vitamin E oil to the cuticles area it helps with easier cleanup.

The base coat is two coats of Orly Ridge Filler. Each color has two coats; the polish has a clear base and then colorful collision of mini glitter which dries with a texture.

If you are not a fan of textured polish this may not be for you, I will say that this texture isn’t as extreme as others.

Shocked is a neon pink and teal collision.

Zapped is a neon yellow and teal collision.

Kaboom is a neon green, yellow and teal collision.

For the Pinkie finger I painted the nail red then made a half moon in white then randomly placed iridescent stars over the red.

For the ring and pointer finger I painted the base a glitter then used nail tape and painted one coat of solid colored polish. While the white and red polish was still wet I took the manicure tape off.

For the middle finger I painted the nail white and then added a red half moon then placed blue glitter stars along the edge.

All fingers where topped off with a Seche Vite top coat.

Easy Fun French Manicures

Follow on Bloglovin

For this blog I created two Fun French manicures, both are easy to do one just takes a little more time. I purchased all of the polish and supplies for these manicures. If you recreate the looks please share them on Facebook or tag me on Instagram @coolpolishblog.

Look one is made with two polishes and a glitter striper.

1. I painted the base with Orly Elation Generation which is a fun pink with glitter.
2. The tip is Sally Hansen Purple Pulse from their Complete Salon Manicure collection this is a lovely deep purple with shimmer, I used one stroke with the brush to add color to each tip.
3. The striper is a silver glitter called Glitter Lites by Nail Art, for the striper I went over where the pink and purple met.

Look two is made with two polishes and nail art decorations, this nail design takes a little longer due to the bead placement.

1. I painted the base with Diamond Dazzle by Milani
2. For the Tips I used Katy by Zoya, you can use manicure guides for nice smooth tips or Avery Reinforcement Labels, both of these items also help create half moon look nails so it is good to have both in your supply kit.
3. For the bead work I used white pearl nail art that I purchased at Claire’s Cosmetics, these items can also be purchased through Amazon. To place the beads I used a dotting tool, fast drying top coat and tweezers. I dotted each spot one at a time then added the bead work.

Nail Art with Sally Hansen, Julie and Revlon!

Follow on Bloglovin

I have been playing around with some nail art designs; it has been fun and a learning experience. This blog is to show you the nail designs with instructions on how I made them so you can give it a try!

Don’t forget to follow on Facebook and instagram @coolpolishblog

Sally Hansen Color blocking. I took five Sally Hansen colors and randomly placed two colors on each of the nails using the brush that came with the polish, then for the green line I used my liner brush and covered over the connecting colors.

A liner brush can be purchased in a set or alone from local craft stores or on Amazon.

Julie half moons. I used two colors (Tangerine Dream and Sugar Rush) from the Julie Gum Drop texture collection. I picked these polishes up when they had the Groupon deal. These polishes are super fun and colorful. I painted each finger with polish let dry then took an Avery reinforcement label sticker and placed it on each nail then painted the tips a different color. I then used my dotting tool to add the dot towards the base.

Avery reinforcement labels can be purchased at Walmart for under $2.00 and the dotting tool came in a set which I purchased off Amazon.

Revlon hexagon sparkle! I used Revlon Sparkle Aplenty to paint my nails; this is a super fun color with small hexagons and glitter in the polish. For the ring finger I used hexagons from Martha Stewart, I placed the hexagons on by using my dotting tool, I dotted a small amount of topcoat on the nail for each hex placement then used the tool to place each shape.

Martha Stewart hexagons can be found at Michaels Craft stores in multiple colors.

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat and Fuzzy Coat

Follow on Bloglovin

I received six polishes in the mail from Sally Hansen, 3 Sugar Coat and 3 Fuzzy Coat; I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of these polishes. These limited edition textured polishes are fun and really transform your manicure. Fuzzy Coat is a 3D texture with a woven effect and the Sugar Coat is a matte finish with a sugary 3D effect.

The 3 Fuzzy coat polishes that came are Wool Knot, Tight Knit, and Wool Lite, the 3 Sugar Coat polishes are Sweetie, Cotton Candy and Cherry Drop.

I test wore these polishes and was highly pleased with the outcome of the wear. If you pick at your manicure then textured polishes are not for you. When applying these textured polishes make sure to clean the ends of your nails to avoid any overhang which will cause snags.  As I paint each nail I gently roll the tip of the nail from side to side on a paper towel, or use an orange stick to gently push the polish off the end of the nail.

Sugar Coats swatches go on very easy and look good with just one or multiple coats, while the Fuzzy Coat will require three coats if is going solo.

Sugar Coat- I really love this collection, it is fun and goes on very easy the brush is a medium size.

Sweetie-a fun pale yellow that says look at me.

Cotton Candy- a light pink that is perfect for the summer.

Cherry Drop- a lovely red that demands attention.

Fuzzy Coat-this is a fun collection with a thinner brush, this polish can be worn alone or used to spice up a standard manicure.

Wool Knot-white and teal.

Tight Knit-royal blue and white

Wool Lite- very light pink

I played around a little with the polishes to show how fun they can be when you mix them up.

Cherry Drop with Tight Knit, this combo makes for patriotic colored nails.

Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow with Tight Knit.

Sally Hansen Cherry, Cherry Bang, Bang with Wool Lite.

These polishes have launched and can be found at major retailers. Let me know on Facebook or instagram @coolpolishblog what you think about these polishes.

Each swatch has two coats of color, and the Grand Central Station top coat.

Taxi Cab-a yellow with micro glitter, if you like yellow this is a great addition to your collection.

Heat Wave- a coral color which I like however the formula was not as smooth as the others and did not contain any glitter.

Short Shorts-a nice emerald green color with micro glitter, does stain so use a good basecoat.

Fruit Punch-a purple pink color with micro glitter, this color is great!

NYC, OPI and Sinful Colors Summer releases!

Over the weekend I ran to a Walgreens and a CVS, while out on my adventures I noticed three new summer 2013 launches for polish.

For OPI Nicole I came across some very cute neon sets of mini bottles called Notorious and Scandalous, I would love to add these minis for my Mini Mani Monday collection however I couldn’t bring myself to make the purchase. Each set came with a white for the base and then three bright colors.

For NYC I found the summer 2013 Rooftop Party collection, where NYC boasts “Two is always better than one!”  The collection has fun summer names such as Short Shorts. Each set came with a quick dry top coat and retailed for $1.99 each, CVS was having a sale buy one NYC get $1.00 off a second; I couldn’t resist this deal and purchased four colors.

The final release that I spotted was for Sinful Colors a summer 2013 Collection called Sail la Vie and another called Pool Side Polish. Most of the colors in both collections are reissues however there are a few which are new.

If so tell us about it on Facebook!

I used Revlon’s Infamous as a base color, this is a polish I purchased. I did not apply a top coat to my ring and pointer fingers.

The Smoke and Matte Top Coat is thinner than the regular Revlon Matte Top Coat, when it dries it is matte with a cloudy look.

The Matte Top Coat is thick and dries a matte finish with a slight shine.

The Importance of a good base coat and nail strengtheners that work!

Follow on Bloglovin

Starting in February I had some major breakage and staining on my nails, something that had never happened to me in the past. I couldn’t figure out why and then it came to me I had changed the base coat to Seche Vite from the trusty Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat.

To help with the breakage all the nails had to be cut down to nothing and the use of Sally Hansen Complete Care started. (A product I purchased)  I asked Sally Hansen to send me some growth products to blog about.  They sent me two products a bottle of their Maximum Growth and a bottle of their Maximum Strength. In order to restore my nails I used these products as stand alone on the nails or as a base to my nail color. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Maximum Growth is more geared towards soft, bitten and weak nails, while Maximum Strength is more for strengthening nails to help prevent breaking peeling or a tear. I started with the Maximum Growth and then went between the Maximum Strength and the Complete Care which is a four in one nail treatment.

My nails have rebounded, I recently cut them to grow out the staining and keep them healthy, I also continue to use the Complete Care and Maximum Growth. Once the staining grows out I will use the Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat as a base to prevent any future staining and breakage. All of these Sally Hansen strengtheners are to be applied every other day and can be used as a base coat.

Complete Care-at major retailers and retails for about $10.00 a bottle, leaves a nice shine or polish goes over very easily.

Maximum Strength-at major retailers and retails for about $4.00-$5.00 a bottle, it is a nice light pink that can be worn alone or with a coat of polish.

The three nails strengtheners and my favorite most trusted Double Duty Base and Top Coat; the top coat has a great shine.

I hope you found this blog to be useful, please share your base coat or strengthener experiences on Facebook

Sinful Colors Bare Necessities!

Follow on Bloglovin

Sinful Colors has a new collection out called Bare Necessities. The collection has eight bottles of polish which I found at Walgreens. Some of these are duplicates of previous releases. Three of the eight are new: Poudre (new to the US) Cupids Arrow and Heartfelt. I picked up five bottles the three new additions along with Bare and Tutu; the other three from this collection are Social Ladder, Easy Going and Glass Pink.

Poudre-is a creamsicle colored thick polish with two coats and was annoying to put on.

Heartfelt-is a pretty pink that is also thick, has two coats and was the most annoying to put on.

Cupids Arrow-is a very light purple with two coats and has the perfect amount of shine.

Tutu-is a very light pink with two coats and has a nice shine.

Bare-a light mauve color that is creamy and perfect for everyday wear. Bare is my favorite of the five swatches and is a must have for your neutral polish collection.

I purchased two more bottles of polish from Sinful Colors in the Diamond Lust Collection. This collection offers 8 different colors of glitter. The glitters range from a mix of round and diamond shape glitter and some with glitter bars. The retail price is $2.99 per bottle. I purchased Queen of Deco and Scene Stealer.  Queen of Deco is a purple glitter with purple diamonds; the Scene Stealer is a red and gold glitter with red diamond glitter.

This swatch has Disco of Queen only on the pinkie and pointer finger while there is a base color of Sinful Colors Amethyst with a coat of Disco of Queen.

Scene Stealer has three coats on my ring finger than then one coat of Sinful Colors Truth or Dare with one coat of Scene Stealer.

While at my local Walgreens I found the new Sinful Shine with Gel Tech display. After reviewing the color options I found most of them to be duplicates of current or past Sinful Colors. I did pick up one color to try the color is Man Hunt which is a nice green; the swatch has 1 coat and no top coat.

The polish is thick and went on easy and dried fast, the shine the polish gives is nice. The retail price is $2.99 which seems to be the new price point for Sinful Colors.

I picked up two sets of the new Wet N Wild Color Wave mini bottle collection for $3.99 each. This is a great addition to my mini collection!

For Today’s Mini Mani Monday I used three colors from one of the Wet N Wild Color Wave collections. I used a light teal with glitter and then an emerald green matte with a slight micro glitter shine.

Unfortunately the bottles are not labeled so I am not sure of official color names; there are six mini colors to choose from. I was really excited to see the emerald green matte color!

The glitters range from a mix of round and diamond shape glitter and some with glitter bars. The retail price is $2.99 per bottle. I purchased one bottle (resistance to purchase more than one bottle was very hard!) The bottle I picked up was Crystal Clear which is a diamond shape glitter with bar glitter and small round glitter all of which are holographic.

The swatch is one coat of Sinful Colors Enchanted a deep purple with two coats of Crystal Clear. The glitter goes on very easy and dries pretty fast. Unlike other glitters with shapes this one does not catch on hair or clothing.

Plunge Pool-placed close to the cuticle to cover staining from Lagoon Afternoon.

Secluded Beach

Coast is Clear- a nice light teal blue that is refreshing perfect for a manicure or pedicure.

Mini Mani Monday!

Follow on Bloglovin

Today’s Mini Mani is from Sally Hansen polish which I purchased. The manicure is made from three colors that came in a small mini kit of four polishes.

This Mini Mani is a colorful leopard print, one my left hand I used a silver base with pink and purple spots, on my right hand I used a pink and a purple base with pink, silver and purple spots.

In order to make the spots I took a lighter color and made random spots on my nails with the tip of the brush, from there I took a darker color and my dotting tool and made small C like designs around the spots then added random spots on the nails to fill in any space. If you do not have a dotting tool you can make the C with a tooth pick.

Brilliant Strength

Follow on Bloglovin

Revlon sent me six samples of their Brilliant Strength Nail Enamel. The collection is an all-in-one nail enamel with built-in strengthener and protective base & top coat for stronger, harder nails. The formula has camellia oil to condition and strengthen nails, rice bran oil with vitamin E to protect nails and lotus and pearl extracts to hydrate the nails.

Revlon states the features of this nail enamel is an all in one built in base and top coat for an all in one use and professional finish. The polish also has the double-barrel brush for smooth bubble free application with out streaks or bubbles.

The nail enamel can be found in 24 trendy shades and will be available in June 2013. I have seen a display of this collection at a local CVS so there must have been an early launch. The bottles are 0.4 fluid ounces and have a white cap and retail for $7.99.

The six colors what were sent to me are Provoke, Captivate, Tempt, Dazzle, Inspire and Dominate.

I did not use a base or top coat; I was a little nervous since I always put a base coat on to protect my nails. The finish of the polish is a nice shine no top coat needed; the finish reminds me of the gel polish trend. I test wore the polish for several days and really worked it hard with a trip to the beach, dishes, laundry, typing and a little retail therapy and was surprised that the polish lasted with minimal chipping with all the wear and tear. In addition to the wear I did notice that my nails did indeed feel stronger and harder.

Be sure to follow on Facebook and Instagram at coolpolishblog, do not forget to share with me which of the 24 colors you pick up.

Provoke- I was a little disappointed with this polish as the brush had a few bristles come off while using the polish, I really liked the color but it did bubble on me and I had to redo my nails three times before I was satisfied with the end result.

Captivate-is a copper like color that went on very easy and can be used as a stamp color, this polish has two coats.

Tempt-is a silver color that went on the easiest of all six colors, can be used with a stamp. The pinkie finger has one coat all others have two coats.

Dazzle-is a pink jelly glitter with three coats, this color is perfect for summer or in the office environment.

Inspire-is a milk chocolate brown with two coats and can be used to stamp with. I was not impressed with the polish by looking at the bottle but was pleasantly surprised when it was on my nails, I can totally see this color with pink polka dots for fun nail art.

Dominate-is a dark chocolate brown with two coats on the index and middle finger and one coat on the others, this color can be used to stamp, this color like Inspire did not impress me until I put it on the nails and again was pleasantly surprised.

Today I went to my local CVS and picked up two Sally Hansen colors: Mermaid’s Tale from the Complete Salon Manicure Collection and Blizzard Blue for the Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Collection. The two colors really compliment each other; Mermaid’s Tale is a blue jelly with glitter and hexagon glitter in a green and blue which went on very smooth even with the annoying wide brush. The Blizzard Blue is a light blue that is iridescent.

I used the Mermaid’s Tale which has two coats over a clear base as a stand alone on my ring finger and then used two coats of Blizzard Blue on all other fingers. For the Pinkie and index finger I used a sponge and placed the Mermaid Blue over the Blizzard blue to create a fun and colorful scale look.

Sally Hansen

Sally Hansen sent me several colors from two collections to review. Three colors are from their Lustre Shine collection and two from their Gem Crush collection. I have always been a fan of Sally Hansen products so I was excited to get these in the mail and try them out.

The three samples from the Lustre Shine collection are Moonstone, Copperhead, and Azure. This polish is an iridescent and went on very smooth, I like the brush as it gives me more control when applying the polish.

Moonstone has two coats and it is a nice white with hints of pink, purple and green. This is a nice simple color that can go with anything but can also be used as a base for nail art.

Copperhead has one coat, I tried two but in my opinion one coat will do for this earthy color. The bottle has hints of green however when you paint the nail all you see is copper, I was really hoping for some green accent color.

Azure has two coats and is a deep blue with hints of silver. This was my favorite of the three colors and would definitely go great alone or used in some nail art.

The Gem Crush collection is a glitter base with hexagon glitter mix. The two colors sent to me were Be-Jeweled and Cha-Ching.  I LOVE both of these colors, the polish goes on easy and has a wide brush, I am not a fan of the wide brush but this worked well with the glitter mix. Both swatches have two coats over a clear base coat. I am not one to put glitter on for a pedicure but I will most definitely use either of these colors on a pedicure in the near future!

Be-Jeweled is a purple glitter with pink hex glitter.

Cha-Ching is a red glitter with silver hex glitter.

Deal of the week!

Follow on Bloglovin

For those of you looking to get a good deal on polish this week be sure to check out Wet n Wild at Walgreens which is on sale for .99 cents through Saturday. I picked up six colors from the Megalast collection.

The usual price at Walgreens is $1.99 so 50% off is pretty nice. The collection has a Pro Brush called ManiCurve. I am not a fan of this brush even though the polish goes on fast and smooth there is just something that annoys me about this brush. I was very disappointed with one of the brushes as it was cut in a weird angle like the machine went haywire in the factory. I typically look at the brushes really well before buying any polish so shame on me for not catching it.

The six colors I picked up are: I Need a Refresh-Mint, Disturbia, Toxic Apple, Through the Grapevine, Break the Ice and White and Stormy. White and Stormy is a clear halo glitter that I used as an accent top coat. All colors swatches have a base coat and two coats of color.

This polish is a mix of white and black glitter, black glitter bars with various sizes of white and black hexagons. The swatch is over Sinful Colors Cool Grey and has one thick coat.

Jubilee is a nice green with black glitter, copper glitter bars, black and green hexagons. You will need a good top coat for this color otherwise it will catch on things. This sample has two coats on top of a clear base coat.

Party Central is a party on your nails. This is a multicolored various sized hexagon polish and will go well over any color. This swatch is over Sinful Colors Adventure Island with one coat of polish with a top coat. Please excuse the cuticles we are fighting right now.

As most of you know Sinful Colors recently launched Almost Famous a glitter collection and Sugar Rush a pastel collection. This blog is about the Almost Famous glitter collection. I love glitter and was super happy to see the color and glitter array in this collection. Sinful Colors is one of my favorite brands when it comes to glitter, the reason is they have different offerings and their formula typically goes on smooth. I am super happy to have the Almost Famous collection added to my stash!

The collection has eight different glitter colors in a few different styles: round glitter, hex glitter and micro glitter. Some of these polishes would be better as a top coat while others are perfect by themselves!

Each swatch varies in how many coats that where used. Expect to put on two or three coats for decent coverage. I used a clear base coat with all except one which is noted on top of the photo.

If you like this collection, I am giving away a new set of them on my Facebook page. Be sure to follow my Facebook page and like the contest photo for a chance to win!

After Party – Teal in color with a mix of glitter with glitter hexagon

Lush Life – Mix of glitter with glitter hexagons on top of Tokyo Pearl

Bombshell – Hint of gold with a mix of glitter and round glitter

In The Spotlight – Hint of green with a mix of glitter and round glitter

Poparazzi – Glitter

Fantasy – Hint of silver with glitter and round glitter

Show Stopping -Pink Glitter

Star Dust – Purple Glitter-this color combo is great however the formula is a goopy, the brush is irregular and doesn’t go on well like the others in the collection.

I picked up the Sinful Colors Professional Go Green collection which consists of three greens all being reissues. The colors are Irish Green, Green Ocean and Happy Ending. In addition to the Go Green collection I purchased a forth green called Exotic Green which has been out for a while.

Irish green is bright neon green and is a jelly; it goes on smooth, if you add a white base coat the color will pop more.

The Green Ocean is a very thick glitter with silver-blue flakes it is rough and will need a top coat but the color is amazing and will look great on top of any color. This color did take some time to remove, I used the tin foil removal method and it took a little longer than other glitters.

Happy Ending is a shiny green with gold hints. This is my favorite of the four greens I picked up.

Exotic Green is a dark thin jelly green that will require several coats. Once applied it is good as a stand alone color or as a base for nail art.

Each color has a clear base coat and two coats of color. The Green Ocean has one coat over Irish Green and one coat on the ring finger with Happy Ending.

I look forward to playing with these greens for festive St. Patrick’s Day nails!

Fun Top Coats!

Follow on Bloglovin

You can add a little more character to a nail color with top coats, here is my review on four fun top coats!

I absolutely love Out the Door Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat “Silver” top coat for a slight glitter shine which dries very quickly. My second favorite glitter top coat is from NYC called In a New York Color Minute this is a multi colored glitter top coat and dries in a very short time. Finger Paints Sparkle Top Coat is thick and takes forever to dry, I only recommend it if you have a lot of time on your hands, the finished product is a holographic glitter bar. Finally I sampled the NYC Matte me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat, this top coat goes on fast and dries within a reasonable time, with the Matte coat I was able to play with the dotting tool on the middle and index finger while completely covering the pinkie and ring finger nail.

The base is China Glaze Gothic Lolita all swatches have two coats of color. I hope you enjoy this blog on fun top coats! Tell me what your favorite fun top coat is!

The polish went on very smooth and even considering how chunky it is, I did not use a top coat and didn’t feel there was a need to. On the ring finger I used two coats of the Bits ‘N Pieces all other fingers have one coat. The one thing I would watch out for is on the glitter bars just to make sure they aren’t hanging over the edge of the nail.

Tell me your thoughts on this collection and be sure to follow me on instagram @coolpolishblog.

Crazy Shine!

Follow on Bloglovin

I had a double nail break on my index finger and it is slowly growing back so I haven’t been painting the nails on my right hand to give the nail a rest. When Revlon sent polish they included a Revlon Diamond Collection File and a Crazy Shine Nail Buffer so instead of painting my nails I decided a good file and buff was in order.

I filed the longer nails down to a decent length with the Revlon Diamond Collection File. This file is wonderful; I have very strong nails so a wimpy file won’t cut it for me. I was able to quickly file and shape my nails all while being fashionable with the flashy glitter on one side of the file.

After filing the nails I used the Crazy Shine Nail Buffer to buff the nails and even them out to a nice smooth surface. After I buffed the nails I flipped the buffer over and used the top side to make the nails shine! I was pleasantly surprised by the shine it was a better shine then any buffing products I have used in the past.

I was able to buff and shine up my nails in only a few minutes! If you are looking for a low maintenance shine to your nails the Crazy Shine Nail Buffer is for you! Sorry I didn’t get a before shine photo!

Expressionist!

This review is on Revlon Nail Art Expressionist. Revlon sent me two colors from this line to try out, Vincent Van Gold and Silhouette. There are 10 shades all together: Post Modern, Pastel Punk, Jackson Polish, Silhouette, Vincent Van Gold, Pinkasso, Nights & Degas, Ulterior Motif, Pop Art, and Monet Monet. All come with a base color with a regular brush and a complimenting art color with a skinny nail art brush.

I used two coats of the base color and then used the art brush to free hand the tips and stripe. The art brush and polish are very easy to work with, any beginner or pro nail lover can easily create a wonderful design on their nails with this product.

Overall, Expressionist has been my favorite out of the Revlon Nail Art Collection. I like the complimenting shades and the ease of use with the skinny nail art brush. The color combinations are a perfect fit and definitely allow you to express yourself.

Neon

This review is on the Revlon Neon Art. Revlon sent me two colors to try, Laser Beam and High Voltage. The first color I tried was Laser Beam, I wore this color to work on Friday and a few of the responses were “wow neon!” or “wow those are some bright nails!” For those of you that want to make a statement in neon this collection is for you!

This collection has 10 shades, all come with a neon color and white base to make it pop! The color choices are Neon Light, High Voltage, Atomic Pink, Laser Beam, Pink Glow, Florescent, Hot Flash, Ultra Violet, Killer-Whatt and Amped Up.

I was curious to see what difference the white base made, on the High Voltage swatch the ring finger has no white base and the index finger has one coat of white base. I found that two coats of the white base are important for a smooth neon look.

Both swatches have two coats of color and no top coat.

Moon Candy!

Nail mail: Revlon sent me some samples to try out. I was very excited to see they are from their new Revlon Nail Art collection. I have seen the displays popping up at local retailers and had been curious on how the nail polish looked. I received two of each collection: Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy, Revlon Nail Art Neon and Revlon Nail Art Expressionist.

This blog is about the Revlon Moon Candy, what a great idea and a jump on the Milky Way themed nail art. Revlon dares you to be cosmic and to “take your nails out-of-this-world.” This collection definitely does take your nails to the next dimension with a deep creamy dark base coat and a 3D iridescent top coat. There are ten color offerings: Moon Dust, Eclipse, Supernova, Orbit, Galactic, Milky Way, Satellite, Universe, Meteor and Cosmic.

For both colors I did 2 coats with the dark base coat, one would be enough but I like two coats. The color went on and dried quickly which was a nice surprise.

The first sample is Milky Way a dark grey base with a silver iridescent top coat.

The second sample is Galactic a very dark blue with a blue iridescent top coat. The third photo is one where I added some hints of white with a sponge then placed the top coat on to create a third dimensional cosmic look. (Please excuse the broken nail.)

I hope you enjoy these fun cosmic looks as much as I do! Be sure to check out your local retailer and pick some up today!

Happy Wednesday!

Today I finally received nail tape which was ordered from a seller on Amazon. The tape was ordered through a Chinese seller so I expected the delay in shipment.

When I came home from work the first thing I did was check out the tape color and tried it on my nails. I was happy with the ten colors that came, light pink, dark pink, gold, silver, blue, green, white, purple, red and copper.

I quickly added the tape to my already painted nails which is China Glaze Strawberry Fields. There was no pattern thought process, I just placed it on quickly then applied China Glaze Hanging in the Balance which is part of the Cirque Du Soleil collection over the tape and already painted nails.

Zoya Shipment!

Happy Purple Monday!

Today my Zoya shipment came in! Of course anyone who went to the Zoya website to participate in the Zoya First Sale of 2013 sale had the headache of figuring out which three colors they were going to order! I chose three purple colors, Areetha, Daul, and Dannii. All three swatches have two coats and no top coat. If you use a top coat just remember that the Seche Vite brand does not play well with Zoya colors!

I was very pleased with all three of my color selections, I needed to add a few more purples to the collection and this was the perfect opportunity.

The first swatch is Areetha this is a purple with hints of blue with a silver metallic that is frosty, and is part of the Zoya Divas Collection.

Areetha

The second swatch is Daul which is a purple with a hint of red and a gold sparkle that is very evident in an iridescent metallic way. This color would be a great addition to anyone trying out the Milky Way nail look.

Daul

The third and final swatch is Dannii a medium purple with silver, pink and champagne shimmer. It is part of the Intimate Collection.

Hello and happy Friday!

Tonight I went to Walgreens and found two Sinful Colors I hadn’t seen in the store before. One is a nice dark red called Truth or Dare, this is a nice strong deep red that went on very easy this has two coats and no top coat.

The second color is Star Fish, this color has been around for a while but I have never seen it in the store. This is a nice light creamy pink with two coats and no top coat.
starfish

Both colors would be great as stand alone or used to make nail art and will work with nail stamps. I will definitely be using both of these colors in my Valentines Day nail art.

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @coolpolishblog.

Pink and Glitter

Follow on Bloglovin

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

Pink is one of my favorite nail colors, add a little glitter and it is the perfect nail combination for me! Both pinks have two coats with two coats of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

On my left hand I used China Glaze Wicked Style from the 2012 Electrocpop Collection with China Glaze Pizzazz from the 2012 Holiday Joy Collection as a layer color. The Wicked Style is a fantastic pink and great not only for the fingers but also for a pedicure! Who doesn’t love a nice cheerful Pedicure? The Pizzazz is a great glitter I love the shine it gives, if you like glitter this is a must have!
chinaglaze

For my right hand I used OPI Don’t Know Beets Me with OPI Save Me from the limited Nicki Manaj Collection as a layer color. The pink is an older color but it is one of my all time favorites, it is a great bright pink, you will often see this color on my toes. The Save Me is a nice silver and blue glitter with a holographic glitter bar which is perfect for anyone looking for something to add some extra shine and confetti look to their manicure.
